Eagles Fly Past Owls

Eagles Fly Past Owls

Two early two-run homers put Citrus College in a hole it couldn't climb out of, falling 7-2 to Mt. San Jacinto College Thursday afternoon.

The Owls slip to 7-9 on the year, while the Eagles improve to 9-8-1.

Mt. San Jacinto knocked two-run bombs in the first and second innings to take a quick 4-0 lead.

Citrus responded in the bottom of the second after putting runners on first and second. Robert Moreno drilled a ball to the shortstop, who made the play at second, but overthrew his double-play attempt, sending the ball out of bounds. It advanced each runner another base as Chad Green (2-for-4) touched home to put the Owls on the board, 4-1.

The Eagles struck again in the fifth (two runs) and in the sixth (one run) to increase their lead to 7-1.

With two outs and two runners on, Green drilled a single to right field, scoring Devon Diaz (1-for-4) from second, 7-2.

Despite an uphill climb, the Owls kept battling and put a runner on, but he was left stranded as the Eagles secured the 7-2 victory.

Citrus has one more game before Western State Conference-South action begins next week. The Owls host Golden West on Saturday at 1 p.m.
