After a close battle to open the series, Citrus College opened the flood gates Thursday and grabbed a 23-1 victory over Antelope Valley College.

The Owls improve to 9-10 overall and remain undefeated at 2-0 in the Western State Conference-South. The Marauders drop to 8-8 on the year and 0-2 in conference.

Citrus wasted little time to get on the board as Conner McKinney doubled to drive in two runs and Robert Moreno drove in another to put the Owls up 3-0 early.

The Owls added two runs in the second and took a commanding 11-0 lead after plating six runs in the third off six hits.

AVC broke the scoring drought with a run in the bottom of the fifth, but Citrus got it right back in the top of the sixth as Matthew Espinoza came home on a Devon Diaz RBI.

Citrus busted the game wide open in the seventh, scoring 11 runs on 10 hits and no errors. With one out, the Owls loaded the bases and sent in three runs off a hit by pitch, passed ball and Jared Gener RBI single.

The Marauders managed to get the second out, but the Owls weren't done. Robert Valdivia singled to drive in another runner, before Chad Green doubled to drive in two more runs.

Citrus batted around the lineup and sent in pinch hitters who each grabbed RBIs: Nathan Rodriguez (RBI single), Hideaki Tanaka (two-RBI double), Dillon Swim (RBI single) and Diego Gonzales (RBI double).

The Owls close out the series with the Marauders at home on Saturday at 1 p.m.
