After exploding on offense the day before, Citrus College cooled off a little and dropped a 4-2 loss to LA Valley.

The Owls slip to 11-12 on the year and 4-2 in Western State Conference action, while the Monarchs improve to 14-8, 3-3.

Santiago Castro led the Owls with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate, while Devon Diaz drove in both the Owls' runs.

The Monarchs took a 3-0 lead after plating a run in the second and two in the third, but Citrus battled back in the bottom of the third. Roman Robles led the inning off with a rogue pitch to the body before Jared Gener joined him on base with a double down the left-field line. Diaz then found a gap on the right side, sending Robles and Gener home to put the Owls within one, 3-2.

Citrus looked like it might get the tying run in the bottom of the fourth. With Castro on second, Josh Logan singled to right-center and Castro rounded home but was called out at the plate before he could touch it for the run.

LA Valley capped the scoring with a solo shot in the top of the fifth to seal the 4-2 victory.

The Owls head to West LA on Tuesday to kick off a three-game series at 2:30 p.m.
