Citrus College got the 2023 season underway Friday at home in a 12-4 loss to Chaffey College.

The Owls open the year at 0-1 while the Panthers get off to a 1-0 start.

After finding themselves in a 12-0 hole after the first five innings, the Owls tried to put together a comeback and scored four runs in their last two appearances at the plate, but it was a little too late.

Citrus loaded up the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth, allowing Jordan Sheridan (1-for-2) to send in a runner with a base hit through the right side to break the shutout.

The Panthers grabbed a second out, but Chad Green (2-for-4) blasted a single to left field, sending two Owls in to score, 12-3.

Chaffey got out of the inning, but Citrus had one more chance at the plate to chip away at the lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, with two outs and runners on third and second, Isaiah Pacheco (1-for-1) found the gap on the left side to tack on another run, but it was all the Panthers would allow in the 12-4 result.

The Owls turn right around to host Pasadena City College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
