Golden West College opened with an explosive first inning that was too much for Citrus College to come back from as the Owls fell 12-4 Thursday afternoon.

The Owls drop to 4-10 on the year, while the Rustlers improve to 10-4 overall.

Devon Diaz led the Owls with a 3-for-3 showing at the plate, scoring two runs and drawing two walks. Ronnie Wohlert went 2-for-3, while Chad Green finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

After finding itself in an 8-0 hole after the first two innings, Citrus tried to battle back and plated three runs in the sixth. With bases loaded and one out, Green blasted a base hit to left, sending two runners in. Diego Gonzales capped the scoring off an Isaiah Pacheco single to cut the margin to 8-3.

Diaz scored again in the top of the seventh after tagging up on a Daniel Rios sacrifice fly, but it was all the Rustlers would allow as GWC responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to secure the 12-4 victory.

Citrus heads to Mt. San Jacinto College on Saturday before beginning Western State Conference action next week.
