Citrus College took on the top team in the conference and scored first but couldn't hold on in a 12-6 loss to Glendale College Tuesday afternoon.
The Owls drop to 8-23 overall and 4-9 in Western State Conference action, while the Vaqueros improve to 23-9 and 12-1 in conference.
Four Owls finished the game with multiple hits: Devon Diaz (2-for-5), Nicholas Santiago (3-for-4), Connor Green (2-for-4) and Alex Hernandez (2-for-5).
Despite giving up two runs, Joseph Jimenez had a solid outing on the mound for the Owls and finished with nine strikeouts in four innings of work.
The Owls look to build on the successes from battling the Vaqueros as they head to Glendale for game two of the series. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
