For the second-straight game, Citrus College found itself in a big hole but kept battling and ultimately grabbed an 11-10 win over Rio Hondo College Friday afternoon.

The Owls improve to 2-1 on the year, while the Roadrunners slip to 1-4 overall.

Citrus had seven hits in the game, with Luke Willison (2-for-4) and Jaden St. Cyr (2-for-4) each knocking two. Chase Bernal, Jordan Sheridan, and Nathan Hellein also had hits for the Owls.

Sean Gonzalez picked up the win on the mound for the Owls, while Reece Harney grabbed the save after striking out one batter in one inning of relief.

The Owls found themselves trailing 7-0 after 4.5 innings, but Willison got things going with a solo shot in the bottom half of the inning.

Bernal drilled a home run of his own in the bottom of the fifth before Citrus came alive in the sixth. With bases loaded and two outs, Michael Reyes drew a rogue pitch to the body to send one run in before St. Cyr blasted a grand slam to tie the game up, 8-8.

Back-to-back errors from the Roadrunners allowed Citrus to tack on three more runs to jump in front 11-8.

Rio Hondo tried to battle back and pulled within one, 11-10, in the top of the eighth but the Owl defense held strong to retain the victory.

The two teams will battle it out again on Saturday at Citrus, with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
