Citrus College opened its Western State Conference series with LA Mission College on a high note Tuesday afternoon, grabbing an 8-2 victory on the road.

The Owls improve to 10-9 overall and 2-2 in conference, while the Eagles slip to 7-13 on the year, 1-3 in the WSC.

Eight Owls had hits in the game, led by Connor Green's 3-for-4 performance at the plate with a double and a home run. Jaden St. Cyr, Nathan Hellein, Jason Armendariz and Alex Hernandez all had two hits, while Jordan Sheridan, Jordan Quintero and Sean Rooney also got on the board.

On the mound, Aiden Taylor picked up the win, allowing just one unearned run and striking out three batters.

Green set the tone in the first inning of action, drilling a two-out home run to put the Owls in front early.

Citrus tacked on two more runs in the top of the second before adding another three in the fifth to jump out to a 6-0 lead.

LA Mission managed to break through in the sixth and added another in the eighth, but a Hernandez RBI base hit in the top of the ninth all but sealed the 8-2 victory for the visitors.

The Owls and Eagles continue their series on Thursday at 2:30 p.m., this time on the Owls' turf.
