Monarchs Take Game One

Monarchs Take Game One

Citrus College resumed Western State Conference play Tuesday against LA Valley college but fell 3-1 to the visiting Monarch. The Owls slip to 13-15 overall and 5-5 in conference play, while the Monarchs improve to 23-6 and 9-1 in the WSC.

After a scoreless two innings by both teams the Monarchs would finally break through and take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. They would add two more runs in the fourth extending their lead to 3-0.

Due to good pitching and defense from both teams the game would remain 3-0 going into the bottom of the ninth, before the Owls scored their first and only run of the day.

The Owls had several opportunities, with seven hits on the day, but finished the game leaving seven runners on base. Top performers for the Owls were Nathan Hellein who went (2-for-4) and scored a run. Chase Bernal went (2-for-3), Derek Leader, Connor Green, and Jason Armendariz all had a hit.

On the mound for the Owls was Aiden Taylor who pitched six innings and struck out three batters. Jake Entrup would also see action giving up only one hit and striking out a batter.

The Owls will look to even the series Wednesday as they travel to LA Valley College for the second game of the series. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
