Glendale Edges Out Citrus

Citrus College suffered a 10-9 loss on the road at Glendale College Tuesday afternoon, despite leading 8-5 going into the eighth inning. The Owls fall to 17-18 overall and 8-8 in conference, while the Vaqueros improve to 21-13 overall and 11-5 in conference. 

The Owls had eleven hits on the day from eight different batters and four home runs. Connor Green had a monster game, going 3-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, three runs scored, and four RBIs. Jordan Quintero also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring a run, and adding an RBI. Jason Armendariz hit his first home run of the year, and Jaden St. Cyr hit his tenth home run of the year.

The Owls' batters came out swinging, posting a five-run inning in their first at-bats. With a single and two batters walked, the bases were loaded before Connor Green hit a single, giving the Owls a 2-0 lead. A batter later, Jordan Quintero hit a double, scoring two more runs. Alex Hernandez finished the inning off with a single, scoring Quintero, and giving the Owls a 5-0 lead.

The Vaqueros answered with a run in the first and two more runs in the second, making the game 5-3.

In the fourth, Jaden St. Cyr hit a leadoff home run, giving the Owls a 6-3 lead before Glendale cut into the lead by adding two runs of their own, making the game 6-5.

In the fifth, the Owls had another great start to the inning as Connor Green led off with a home run, and then followed that up with his second home run of the day in the seventh inning, giving the Owls an 8-5 lead.

In the eighth inning, the Vaqueros refused to go away, scoring two runs, making the game 8-7 before Citrus added another run in the top of the ninth off a solo home run from Jason Armendariz, giving the Owls a 9-7 lead.

It was not enough as the Vaqueros continued their hot hitting in the ninth and rallied late, scoring the go-ahead run and taking game one of the series 10-9.

Citrus College will be back in action on Thursday as they host Glendale College in the second game of the series. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
