Sheridan Delivers Walk-Off

Citrus College won in a walk-off Thursday afternoon 7-6 to even the series against Glendale College. The Owls improve to 18-18 overall and 9-8 in conference, while the Vaqueros fall to 21-14 and 11-6 in the conference.

The Owls had fourteen hits from ten different batters. Jaden St. Cyr led the way going 3-for-5 from the plate with a solo home run and scored two runs. Jordan Quintero went 2-for-4 from the plate with three RBIs, and Connor Green had a multiple-hit game going 2-for-5. Nathan Hellein, Mario Catalan, Chase Bernal, Jason Armendariz, Alex Hernandez, Sean Rooney, and Jordan Sheridan all added a hit in the game. On the mound, Aiden Taylor pitched seven innings, giving up four runs and striking out five batters, while Alex Mendez picked up the win, getting the Owls out of a difficult ninth inning and improving his record to 3-1 on the year.

The Owls jumped out to an early lead with Chase Bernal picking up an RBI single that scored Jaden St. Cyr. A batter later, Jason Armendariz did the same and hit an RBI single that scored Nathan Hellein. Jordan Quintero finished things off with his first at-bat, hitting a single that scored Bernal and Armendariz, giving the Owls a 4-0 lead.

The Owls added another run in the second as Jaden St. Cyr hit his eleventh home run of the year, making the game 5-0.

On the mound, Aiden Taylor kept the visiting Vaqueros off the board until the fifth inning when they scored three runs, making the game 5-3. The Owls added another run in the seventh, making the game 6-3.

The Vaqueros tied the game after a run in the eighth and two runs in the ninth, making the game 6-6.

In the bottom of the ninth, the game seemed to be headed to extra innings as the Owls' first two batters recorded outs. Connor Green, with two outs, stepped to the plate and picked up his second hit of the game, a double to left field. The Vaqueros intentionally walked Jordan Quintero, and the Owls called upon Jordan Sheridan to pinch-hit. With runners on first and second, Sheridan delivered the decisive blow, a walk-off single giving the Owls a 7-6 win even the series.

The Owls will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Glendale College for the final game of a three-game series. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
