Owls Secure Comeback

Citrus College opened its final Western State Conference series with a comeback victory as they traveled to Bakersfield College Tuesday afternoon. The Owls improve to 19-19 overall and 10-9 in the conference, while the Renegades fall to 12-24 overall and 9-10 in the conference. 

The Owls had twelve hits from seven different batters, with Jaden St. Cyr, Nathan Hellein, Mario Catalan, Jordan Sheridan, and Jordan Quintero each having two hits. Jaden St. Cyr hit his 12th home run of the year, and Jordan Sheridan led the Owls with 3 RBIs. On the mound, three Owls pitchers saw action, with Andrew Granados pitching six innings, striking out five batters. Jonathan Maldonado pitched an inning without giving up a hit, and Reece Harney pitched two innings and picked up the win.

In the game's first at-bat, Jayden St. Cyr hit a leadoff home run, giving the Owls a 1-0 lead.

The Renegades would get on the board in the second with two runs of their own, taking a 2-1 lead.

The Owls would score another run in the third off a Jordan Sheridan single that scored Sean Rooney, tying the game 2-2.

The Renegades would again take the lead in the fourth as they added another run, making the game 3-2, before the Owls tied the game back up in the fifth with a single from Connor Green that scored Mario Catalan, making the game 3-3.

The Renegades would add another run in the sixth, but the Owls would score another run in the seventh when Mario Catalan hit a double, scoring Nathan Hellein and retying the game 4-4.

Going into their last at-bats, the Owls would trail the Renegades 5-4. In the ninth, Jaden St. Cyr would start the inning off with a leadoff single. A batter later, Nathan Hellein would be hit by a pitch, giving the Owls two base runners and no outs. With one out, Jordan Sheridan would deliver the hit of the game. Sheridan hit a two-RBI double to right field, giving the Owls a 6-5 lead. Reece Harney would finish things off for the Owls on the mound and give them the series-opening win.

The Owls will be back in action as they host Bakersfield College for the second game of the series. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
