Baseball Opens Season

Citrus College Baseball is searching for their first win of the season as they suffered two tough losses this past weekend. 

Citrus College opened their season by hosting Victor Valley College last Friday, January 24th, losing 10-9 in 10 innings. The Owls were up 8-5 going into the 9th inning, a four-run 9th inning for the Rams put them up 9-8 before Dustin Yela drove in Tetsa Nakamura on a single to right field to tie the game at 9-9. Victor Valley scored in the top of the 10th inning and the Owls were unable to answer as they began their season 0-1 while Victor Valley College began their season 1-0. 

Although the Owls did not get the result they wanted on Opening Day, they got solid performances from Chase Yerman who drove in three runs, while Luke Willison and Nathan Hellein each scored a run and recorded two RBI's. 

On Saturday, January 25th, Citrus College hosted Pasadena City College in their second game of the season, losing 22-9. The Owls fought back after going down 7-2 through five innings when a season-high 6-run sixth inning put them back up 8-7. The Owls could not contain the Lancers as they scored 15 runs in the final three innings to defeat Citrus 22-9. Dustin Yela went (2-for-4) from the plate with three runs scored and one RBI. Luke Willison went (3-for-3) with one run scored while Jordan Quintero went (2-for-3) with one run scored and two RBI's. 

Citrus College goes to 0-2 overall on the season, while Pasadena City College moves to 1-1 on the year. 

The Owls will be back in action tomorrow, Monday, January 27th at 1:30 p.m. as they host Victor Valley again, a rematch from Friday's extra inning battle.
