Baseball Gets Win at Rio Hondo

Citrus College Baseball earned an 11-9 win over Rio Hondo College over the weekend on Saturday, February 8th. 

Citrus College improves to 3-4 overall on the season, while Rio Hondo College falls to 2-7 overall on the season. 

The Owls jumped on the Roadrunners early with a six-run top of the first inning with RBIs from Chase Bernal, Kirk Felikian II, Isaac Nava and Danyal Jenkins. Rio Hondo answered by scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning and six runs in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 6-6. Isaac Nava recorded his second RBI of the game in the top of the third inning, driving in Derek Leader, which put the Owls up 7-6. 

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Rio Hondo scored two runs to take an 8-7 lead. Citrus had a four-run top of the eighth inning thanks to a Dustin Yela double that drove in Nathan Hellein and Danyal Jenkins, a Luke Willison double that scored Yela and a Jordan Quintero RBI single to bring home Willison. With the Owls up 11-8 after their dominant eighth inning, the Roadrunners were able to score one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning with the final score being 11-9. 

Dustin Yela led the Owls going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Kirk Felikian II went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Danyal Jenkins went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, one run scored and one stolen base. Chase Bernal and Jordan Quintero each went 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI. Luke Willison went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. 

Reece Harney struck out two through five innings and gave up two earned runs. Juan De La Torre struck out two batters in one inning pitched and Isaac Gonzales earned the win, pitching the eighth and ninth innings and striking out two batters. 

Citrus College will travel to San Bernardino Valley College tomorrow, Tuesday, February 11th for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Wolverines.
