Owls Win in Extra Innings

Citrus College Baseball hosted Oxnard College today, winning 8-7 in the tenth inning on a Derek Leader walk-off walk.
Citrus College moves to 4-5 on the season, while Oxnard College goes to 1-7 on the year.
Originally scheduled to be played at Oxnard College, the game was moved to Citrus College due to rain. The Owls went down 3-0 at the top of the fifth inning before Nathan Hellein drove in the Owls first run of the game, a sacrifice fly to right field which scored Joshua Cortinas to make the score 3-1 after five innings. The Condors added three runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Luke Willison smashed a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning making the score 6-2.
Citrus added three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to get within one run, thanks to a Luke Willison sacrifice fly and a Jordan Quintero double to center field that scored Nathan Hellein and Dustin Yela, the Owls were then down 6-5. Hellein stepped up big for Citrus in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game at 6-6 on a sacrifice fly to score Sebastian Ancheta.
Going into extra innings the Condors went ahead 7-6 at the top of the tenth inning before Dustin Yela hit clutch single up the middle to score Hellein, tying the game at 7-7. With the bases loaded Derek Leader drew a walk to drive in the game-winning run, Luke Willison, from third base.
Luke Willison led the Owls, going 3-for-4 with one homerun, two runs scored and two RBIs. Jordan Quintero went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Nathan Hellein want 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Dustin Yela went 2-for-5 with one RBI, one run scored and one stolen base. Danyal Jenkins also went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases.
Reece Harney struck out seven batters through five innings, Jonathan Maldonado struck out two through two innings pitched, Matthew Martinez came in and pitched two scoreless innings in relief and Alek Gavaghan earned the win after taking over in the top of the tenth inning.
Citrus College will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, February 15th as they host Pasadena City College at 12 p.m.
