Owls Fly Past Renegades to Open Conference Play

Citrus Baseball began conference play today, getting an 11-4 win over Bakersfield College.
Citrus College improves to 6-10 overall on the season and 1-0 in conference, while Bakersfield College goes to 8-7 overall and 0-1 in conference.
Home runs from Isaac Nava and Luke Willison propelled the Owls' offense today as they put up 10 runs combined in the bottom of the third and fourth innings.
Adrian Sanchez drove in the first run of the game, and RBI single to get Jordan Quintero home, giving the Owls a 1-0 lead. After Bakersfield College scored two runs in the top of the third inning, Jordan Quintero tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single. Isaac Nava hit his second home run of the season, a grand slam that drove in Luke Willison, Jordan Quintero, and Kirk Felikian II giving the Owls a 6-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning the Owls added five more runs thanks to a Dustin Yela RBI double, a Luke Willison 2-run home run, a Chase Bernal RBI single and Isaac Nava stealing home as Citrus went up 11-2. The Owls' pitching only allowed two more runs to be scored by the Renegades, led by Matthew Martinez who pitched 7.2 innings, only allowing two earned runs. Jonathan Maldonado came in to retire two batters and Reece Harney struck out one batter to close out the top of the ninth inning.
In the Owls' strong first conference game, Isaac Nava led the way going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBIs, two runs scored, two walks and one stolen base. Luke Willison hit his fourth home run of the season while going 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Nathan Hellein went 2-for-5 with one run scored and two stolen bases. Danyal Jenkins stole his 12th base of the season while going 1-for-3 with one run scored and two stolen bases.
Citrus College will continue their conference series with the Renegades as they travel to Bakersfield College this Thursday, March 6th for a 2 p.m. game.
