Glendora, CA -- Citrus College sophomores Rodney Mathews, David Metcalf, and Travis Doll have signed scholarship offers and will be midyear transfers. Mathews will be attending and playing at Fresno State University, while Metcalf will be at Prairie View A & M University, and Doll at Ottawa University.

Mathews was a two year starter for Citrus, earning 1st team All-Conference honors both as a freshman and a sophomore and recently being named 1st team All-State. In 2012, Mathews led Citrus in tackles with 89, setting a single season mark with 54 solo tackles on the year. Mathews finished his Citrus career as the all-time career leader in solo tackles, second in career interceptions, and third in his career with 14 pass break-ups. Mathews joins a Fresno State squad that is on the upswing, and coming off its best season since 2001.

"I chose Fresno State because I loved the coaching staff. They made me feel at home immediately and it was real personal with them. They said I'd be able to come into spring ball and compete for a starting spot.," Mathews said. "[Citrus College Head] Coach [Ron] Ponciano and [Citrus Defensive Coordinator] Coach [Eddie] Pacheco helped me out a lot with the on the field stuff. I've learned a lot with the defensive schemes and formations," Mathews said. "They've [Citrus] prepared me in the right way."

Metcalf meanwhile was also a two year starter for Citrus. Metcalf was fifth on the team in tackles in 2012, with 49 total tackles. Metcalf also had a forced fumble, four tackles, for a loss, and a team high six pass break-ups in 2012. Prairie View A & M had a tough go of it in 2012, but will be looking to rebound in 2013 coming off their 3-8 record.

"It's a great place to get an education and continue my football career. They have a strong football tradition, and I'm excited to be going there," Metcalf said.  "Citrus has played a big role in getting me to this point. It's taught me how to be a man, and learn from my mistakes," Metcalf said.

Doll was a two year start for Citrus, helping hold down the line of one of the better offenses in and around Southern California. Doll was an All-National Division Central Conference Honorable Mention honoree in 2012.

"They offered me a great scholarship and a great opportunity to play that was too hard to pass up. The staff was extremely helpful even before I committed to go there, in helping me complete the matriculation process," Doll said. "I wasn't recruited out of high school, so Citrus gave me the opportunity to showcase myself and move on to the four-year level," Doll said.

"Rodney, David, and Travis have played a big role in helping turn our program around the last two seasons," said Citrus College Head Football Coach Ron Ponciano. "They have started on a positive path, and we know if they continue to work hard they will continue to have success."
