Football Season Ends with Loss to Allan Hancock

Glendora, CA - The 2016 Citrus College Football season came to a close on Saturday evening when the Owls played host to American Division #10 Allan Hancock College. Citrus kept things close through the first half, but were shutout for the entirety of the second half, and held to their second lowest rushing total of the season in a 30-16 loss. 

 The first score of the game would come on Allan Hancock's first possession of the game, when after the Owl defense forced a three and out, the snap by the Bulldog's long snapper sailed over the head of the Hancock punter and out of the back of the end zone to make it 2-0 in favor of Citrus. The Owls would add to that total six plays later, when sophomore quarterback Brian Meyette found freshman running back Devin Floyd with a swing pass out of the back field that Floyd took 17 yards to the house to make it 9-0. 

Hancock would get on the board before the end of the first, needing just 1:26 of game time to move the ball 65 yards and make it 7-9. The Bulldogs would score on their next possession to take their first lead of the game 14-9 with 14:52 left in the second quarter. Citrus would answer back on their next drive, a 15 play, 75 yard drive that took over seven minutes and was capped off by a three-yard TD run from sophomore Abel Morales to make it 16-14. 

That was the last score by the Owls, as Hancock scored 17 more points and kept Citrus off the board for the remaining 37 minutes of the contest. In the loss, Meyette finished with 194 yards passing and one TD. Floyd, who became the first Owl to rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season since 2005, finished with 69 yards rushing on 18 carries. On defense, the Owls had three players finish with double digit tackling nights, including freshmen Henry Pigee and Jeremiah Vasquez and sophomore linebacker Ryan Rodriguez.

With the loss, Citrus' season ends with a 4-6 record overall and 1-4 in conference play.
