Citrus Defense Butts Heads With Antelope Valley

Citrus College Football traveled to Lancaster Saturday to open up 2017 conference play in what both teams predicted would be a defensive battle. The predictions were correct, as both offenses were limited in total output by the stellar defensive play of both teams. Citrus managed to piece together 242 total offensive yards, but couldn't seal the deal in the red zone and settled for two field goals by place kicker Diego Morales, including a 25 yarder. Antelope Valley made the most of it's time of possession, and although it had the ball almost 11 minutes less than the Owls, managed to convert 2 touchdowns, missing the second PAT attempt. 

Citrus has struggled to put up potent numbers offensively thus far in their 2017 campaign, but the defense has made up the difference with hard nosed, bull headed effort that has resulted in the lowest points allowed by all teams in the Southern California Football Association Pacific Division, and 3rd best amongst all 37 teams in the SCFA, with just 96 total points allowed on the season. Leading that defense is a cast of characters that have consistently performed at a high level this year. Jeremiah Vasquez, Zach Lewallen, Grant Trueman and Henry Piggee all average at least 5 tackles per game, while Trueman and Henry Karimu both place in the top 5 conference players with 5.5 and 4 sacks, respectively. The Owls will look to add offensive point production to complete the package as it moves through the second half of the season.

Citrus continues conference play this Saturday when they visit LA Pierce College, who is also currently 0-1 in the Pacific Division. The Owls will look to it's strengths to take out a new lease on the season. Kickoff is at 6:00 PM.
