Citrus Football got back into the groove Saturday following a heartbreaking setback to San Bernardino the previous week. The Fighting Owls outlasted Antelope Valley at Citrus Stadium in a defense-heavy faceoff, 13-7.

The scoreless first half was filled with long, scoreless drives and a whole lot of punt returns. Both teams asserted themselves on defense, and the Owls uncharacteristically went into the locker room having gone scoreless in the first half for the first time in 2018.

Citrus would come out in the 2nd half with some adjustments made and an eye on converting more 3rd downs, as AVC had limited them to just a conversion rate of just 33%. But it would still be nearly 15 minutes before Citrus would get on the board with a 5 yard TD run by James Brown

AVC would score almost immediately in the 4th quarter, and the score remained tied until there were just 6 minutes left in the game. Citrus would finally convert, making a hole up the middle for a 1 yard QB keeper by Kody Olmos. The PAT would narrowly miss, requiring an all out defensive stop by the Owls to lock in the win. Citrus wold slow AVC down on the final drive attempt, forcing a turnover on downs and giving Citrus the win.

Running Back Marcus Knight had another solid performance, rushing for 97 yards on 11 carries, including a thrilling 55 yarder that almost scored. Brown also added up some good numbers, rushing for 86 yards and a TD.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jonathan Shelley tallied up 7 total tackles on the day, including 6 solos and a sack. Grant Trueman, a punter and kicker's nightmare, blocked yet another punt and added a sack and 3 tackles.

The Owls move to 6-3 overall on the year and a 3-1 mark in conference.

Citrus takes the field this Saturday at Mt. San Jacinto for a 1:00 kickoff. the game marks the final regular season game of 2018.
