Fighting Owl Football Wins 2019 Season Opener

Citrus Football knocked off visiting West LA on Saturday at home to open up the 2019 season. The Owls topped the Wildcats 26-16.
The two teams proved to be evenly matched through much of the game, and the 1st quarter would end with the teams locked in at 0-0. But Citrus finally struck first in the 2nd quarter when quarterback Ernesto Camacho scored on a 12 yard keeper. A missed extra point put Citrus on the board at 6-0.
West LA would waste no time responding, striking back on the next possession on a 75 yard reception and touchdown, and made the PAT, putting the Wildcats up 7-6. Again, the next possession was the answer, this time for Citrus. Camacho found Justyn Alexander for a 15 yard TD pass. The PAT would miss again, and the Owls regained the lead 12-7.
Things picked up again in the 4th quarter with both teams piling on offensive yardage and scores. Walter Carl scored on a 2 yard rush and Sal Tovar ran for 50 yards and a TD. The Wildcats would put one more in the end zone with 6:40 remaining, but the Owls would hold off the visitors to win the game 26-16.
The win puts the Owls at 1-0 to start the season. They take the gridiron again next Saturday in a road game at Compton. Kickoff is at 6:00 PM.
