After an impressive defensive performance to help No. 17-ranked Citrus College grab its sixth-straight win of the year, Drew Merrill was named the Southern California Football Association Defensive Player of the Week. It marks the second SCFA Player of the Week honor the Owls have grabbed after Adam Urena was named the Offensive Player of the Week earlier this year.

The freshman defensive back came up big for the Owls in a 31-6 victory over Orange Coast College to open American Metro League action. He had three tackles, two interceptions and a breakup in the victory, which pushes Citrus' best start to the season at 6-0.

Merrill's biggest play of the game came late in the game on fourth and goal at Citrus' nine-yard line as OCC tried to go for it. Merrill snatched the ball in the endzone, however, and took off for a 105-yard pick-six.

The Owls look to keep their hot streak going as they return home to host Santa Ana College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
