This past year, twins Adam Urena and Austin Urena helped the Citrus College football team have its best year yet. The Owls went a perfect 11-0 on the year for the first time in program history and won their first conference championship since 2006 and added a divisional title as well.

While their time at Citrus may be over, the dynamic duo isn't finished yet as the twins are headed to Mercyhurst University together.

"It means so much to me to be able to continue playing the sport that I love and have devoted so much of my life to," said Austin. "It has always been a dream of mine to become an NCAA athlete and to be able to say that is a huge honor for me. To do this alongside my brother is something that I am really proud of. I cannot wait to get to work with my new school and I am so blessed and grateful to have this opportunity."

"It makes the transition to the four-year level so much easier going with any teammate, let alone my twin brother," added Adam. "Especially going to the East Coast with a different time zone, the transition will be tough, but a sense of familiarity will help me make my next two years the best they possibly can."

Adam joins the Lakers after rewriting the Owl Record Book his sophomore season as the Owls' quarterback. He was a unanimous All-Metro League Offense First Team and All-State Region IV Offense First Team selection after he set three records for the Owls this past year: most touchdown passes in a single game (6), most touchdown passes in a single season (33), and most touchdown passes in a career (57).

Adam finished the year ranked second in the State in touchdown passes, third with 268.3 passing yards per game, third with 213 completions, and fourth with a 172.9 pass efficiency rating. He was also named the Southern California Football Association Co-Offensive Player of the Week the first week after throwing six touchdowns (a Citrus single-game record) in the Owls' 50-14 victory over Grossmont College.

"My time at Citrus truly changed my life," said Adam. "It gave me the opportunity to continue to play the sport I love, which led me to create friendships that'll last way past my time at Citrus. I loved everything that Citrus had to offer, from the athletic training staff to the professors I had during my time there."

Austin also leaves Citrus with his own legacy after being on the other end of many of his brother's passes as a wide receiver for the Owls. He finished the year with a team-high 53 receptions – which sits in the top-five in the record book – for 494 yards, averaging 49.4 yards per game. He scored three touchdowns on the year, including his longest touchdown for 39 yards.

Over his two years as an Owl, Austin played in 19 games, making 82 receptions – just three off the program record – and averaged 39.8 yards per game, scoring four career touchdowns.

"Citrus has been the perfect place to me in order to continue my development not only as a player but as a person as well," said Austin. "I have been so fortunate to work with great people and teammates that have helped me every step of the way. Citrus has made me into the person that I am today and I would not trade any moment I had for anything. I have made lifelong friendships and memories at Citrus, and would not want to do that at any other place or college. I am so blessed that I was able to go to Citrus and have as great of an experience as I did."
