Owls Bounce Back Against Griffins

No. 19 Ranked Citrus College makes statement against unranked Grossmont College in 48-13 win on Saturday. 

The Owls hosted the Grossmont College Griffins last Saturday, September 21st to pick up a much-needed win before facing off with No.2 ranked Mt. San Antonio College this weekend. Citrus improves to 2-1 on the season while Grossmont moves to 1-2 on the season. 

Citrus College started the game with a noticeable increased energy as they forced back-to-back three and outs by Grossmont before Hakim Haliburton rushed for a 20-yard touchdown for the game's first score, putting the Owls up 7-0. 

After a big 4th and 1 sack by Dominic Rausch to end the 1st quarter, Tobin O'Dell started the second half with an impressive 53-yard rush carrying Grossmont defenders with him for extra yardage. Jamahl Willson punched in a 4-yard rushing touchdown to put the Owls up 14-0. On the Owls' next drive history was made when Jamahl Wilson spun free after breaking multiple tackles and ripped off a 98-yard touchdown run, the longest gain in Citrus College Football history. Citrus College stopped Grossmont on their ensuing drive and put together another scoring drive with Hakim Haliburton finding the endzone on an 11-yard touchdown run, his second of the day which put Citrus up 28-0. 

Grossmont scored on their next drive, making the score 28-7 but left enough time in the 2nd quarter for Tobin O'Dell to find the speedy Brayden Austin for a 40-yard touchdown pass which gave the Owls a 34-7 lead at halftime. 

On Citrus' first drive of the 3rd quarter Tobin O'Dell found Jamahl Wilson for his third touchdown of the night, this time a 52-yard reception that made the score 41-7. The Owls stopped the Griffins on their ensuing drive to get the ball back. Quarterback Koy Riggins left the Owls' offense down the field and found Sean Persson for an 11-yard touchdown pass to give Citrus a 48-7 lead. 

Grossmont scored one more time in the 4th quarter, making the final score 48-7. 

Citrus College amassed 518 total yards on offense led by Jamahl Wilson's 173 rushing yards, Tobin O'Dell's 68 rushing yards, Hakim Haliburton's 67 rushing yards and Myion Walker's 48 rushing yards. Jamahl Wilson also led the team in receiving with 63 yards, Sean Persson added 43 receiving yards and Brayden Austin had 40 yards, all from his touchdown reception. 

Lucas "Maui" Froemel was 4 for 5 on his extra point attempts and Ruben Jiminez was 2 for 2 on his extra point attempts. 

Defensively the Owl's put together a dominant showing led by Dominic Rausch who recorded two sacks, Dominic Avelar who had five tackles, Kyle Ferm who had four tackles (one tackle for a loss) and Ryder Cadam who had an interception and two pass breakups. Donovan Perez led the team with five pass breakups while Keenan Eck and Joshua Hatcher-Lopez both recorded a quarterback sack. 

Cirtus College will head to No.2 ranked Mt. San Antonio College this Saturday, September 28th for a 6 p.m. matchup with the rival Mounties.
