Santa Clarita, CA -- All signs pointed to the Citrus College Men's Basketball qualifying for the 2013 CCCAA post-season next week, but the Owls still could have used a win on Thursday for good measure. Citrus got just that as they  out scored Santa Monica College by 14 in the second half en route to a 77-68 win over the Corsairs at College of the Canyons.

The game was tight from the tip with four lead changes in the first ten minutes of action. Citrus held a small lead for nearly six minutes, until Santa Monica ripped it back with just under ten minutes to go. The Corsairs held on to it all the way to the break where they led 41-36.

The Owls came out firing in the second half, opening up the frame with a 13-4 run started by a lay-up from sophomore Steven Thornton Jr. and capped off with an exclamation point of a dunk from Thornton Jr. that made it 49-45 in favor of the Owls.

Santa Monica would briefly take the lead back shortly thereafter, but on Citrus' next possession sophomore Jordan Mackie drilled a trey that put the Owls back up 52-50. The Corsairs would tie the game back up after that, but would never regain the lead.

Citrus would push their lead to eight around the nine minute mark after a lay-in from sophomore Kerry Carter. Santa Monica would cut the lead to two with just a little under four minutes left on the clock, but that sparked a little run for the Owls as they held the Corsairs to just one more field goal in the rest of the game and out scored them  11-2. Freshman Terrell Todd put the final nail in the coffin with a big three  and 55 seconds on the clock.

With the win, Citrus improves to 14-10 on the year. The Owls will be back at Canyons again tomorrow night to take on College of the Canyons in the final regular season contest of the year. Tip-off is set for  7:00 PM.
