Glendora, CA -- Citrus College Sophomore Steven Thornton Jr. was named the Western State Conference South division player of the week on Tuesday thanks to his play at the WSC South Tournament last week. It's the sixth time an Owl won the award this year, and the second time Thornton has won the award on his own.

Thornton helped guide the Owls to a pair of wins late last week 77-68 over Santa Monica College and then 77-71 against College of the Canyons. Against Santa Monica, Thornton Jr. had 13 points, three boards, and a pair of assists. Against Canyons, Thornton had his best offensive game of the year, with a season high 27 points, and hitting a season high four threes.

The Owls recently were bestowed with the #17 seed in the CCCAA Southern California Playoffs. Citrus will be travelling to Cuesta College on Wednesday evening to take on the #16 seed Cougars. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM in San Luis Obispo.
