Amajoyi and Franklin Sign Scholarship Offers

Glendora, CA – Sophomores Oliver Amajoyi and Latrelle Franklin were the final two members of the Citrus College Men's Basketball program to sign scholarship offers this past week. Both individuals red-shirted the 2016-2017 season, and both will be suiting up for NAIA institutions in 2017-2018. They are the fifth and sixth members from Citrus to sign scholarship offers this year.

Amajoyi will continue his career in Rocklin, CA with William Jessup University. Amajoyi played in just five games for Citrus College in the 2015-2016 season before suffering a season ending injury. Amajoyi averaged 1.2 points and 1.8 rebounds a game in just under five minutes of action.

"They we're the college that believed in me the most," Amajoyi said of William Jessup. "They're giving me the chance to keep pursuing my education, while playing the sport I love. Citrus has taught me to keep pushing. I could have easily given up when battling through my injuries, but I've learned to never give up when going after my dreams," Amajoyi said. "Most importantly Citrus has taught me how to compete through every aspect of my life."

Franklin has signed on with Rocky Mountain College for next year. He appeared in 29 games for the Owls during his freshman season, also during the 2015-2016 campaign. He averaged 4.6 points, 3.4 assists, and 1.9 rebounds a game. Franklin shot 41.3% from the floor and 42.4% from downtown.

"After talking with my father and speaking with the coach at Rocky Mountain, I decided it was the best place to continue my education. It also provides me a great opportunity to keep playing  basketball," Franklin said. "Citrus has a huge family atmosphere, that was crucial in my development. It's helped me mature, and it's humbled me. I now feel like I can take on any challenge ahead of me and overcome any obstacle that I may face."

"Oliver and Latrelle both faced adversity while here at Citrus," said Citrus College Head Men's Basketball Coach Brett Lauer. "Despite those struggles, they both never gave up, and at the end of the day they both accomplished what their goals were when they first stepped foot on our campus, to get a scholarship to continue their educational and basketball careers at the four-year level. We're proud of them, and are excited to see them continue to grow over the next few years."
