No. 15-ranked Citrus College grabbed a 95-82 victory over LA Valley College Wednesday evening to hold onto its spot atop the Western State Conference standings.
The Owls improve to 18-6 on the year and 9-1 in conference, putting them still tied for first place in the WSC-South standings with No. 9-ranked West LA. The Monarchs drop to 6-15 overall, 2-8 in conference with the loss.
As a team, Citrus forced 21 turnovers and scored 34 points off those to run away with the win late in the game.
Five Owls finished with double-digit points, led by JJ Mitchell with 23 points (7-for-13). Brandon Suber went 8-for-10 with 19 points, while Malik Khouzam (4-for-11) and Rudy Suarez (6-for-8) each chipped in 14 points. Tyrel Creger rounded out the scorers in double figures with 13 points (5-for-10).
Mitchell grabbed 11 rebounds to help the Owls win the glass 33-to-25.
Citrus has just three games left in the regular season and heads to Glendale College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip off.
