No. 3-ranked Citrus College traveled to no. 16-ranked Mt. San Antonio College for their season opener last night but came up short in a 72-70 loss.
Citrus begins their season at 0-1, while Mt. SAC starts off at 1-0.
The Owls were led by Pejan Slater with 22 points and 11 rebounds while Blake Ballard chipped in 21 points on 8-22 from the field. Amiri Meadows led Citrus with five assists and added a team-high three steals.
Citrus College held Mt.SAC to 14.3% from three and forced 16 turnovers by the Mounties but were outscored in points in the paint 40-26. In a game with ten ties and 15 lead changes the Owls battled back and forth, but ultimately fell short late in the second half when Mt.SAC scored to go up 72-70 with less than three seconds remaining in the game.
Citrus will look to bounce back in their second game of the season, a road matchup with MiraCosta next Tuesday, November 5th at 6 p.m.
