Owls Take Down Chargers, Advance to State

Citrus College Basketball defeated Cypress College 98-84 tonight in the 3C2A SoCal Regional Final to advance to State. 

Citrus College improves to 28-2 overall on the season, while Cypress College finish their 2024-25 season at 23-10. 

Led by KJ Perry with 16 first half points, the Owls put on a dazzling shooting display in the first half going 20-of-37 from the field and hitting 6-of-12 from beyond the arc. On the defensive end, Citrus College held Cypress to 3-of-9 from beyond the arc in the first half while forcing six turnovers. 

In the second half the Owls shot 53.6% from the field and hit 3-of-7 from three-point range. Citrus forced another six Cypress turnovers in the second half and only allowed the Chargers to hit 2-of-12 from beyond the arc. 

Overall, the Owls went 35-of-65 from the field, hitting 9-of-19 from three-point range. In a game where the Owls were outscored in points in the paint, second chance points, points off turnovers and fastbreak points, Citrus' offensive efficiency and getting to the free throw line helped them secure their 22nd consecutive win. 

Citrus was led by KJ Perry who scored 30 points on 9-of-16 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Perry added seven assists, one rebound and one steal. JJ Mitchell scored 17 points with seven rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Tyler Isaak had 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and one steal. Amiri Meadows scored 10 points with six assists, five rebounds, a game-high four steals and one block.

Pejan Slater led the Owls with nine rebounds and added eight rebounds and one assist. Brandon Suber chipped in 11 points, three rebounds and one assist off the bench, while Blake Ballard scored six points and grabbed two rebounds off the bench. 

Citrus College will take on Las Positas College this Thursday, March 13 at Mt. San Antonio College at 3 p.m.
