Men’s Soccer Gets Five On All-WSC List

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Men's Soccer team got five representatives on the 2013 All-Western State Conference List. Sophmore Silbestre Valencia highlighted the group as the only Owl to earn 1st team honors.

Valencia had an outstanding sophomore campaign for the Owls, appearing in 17 games and scoring five goals and two assists. Valencia totaled 12 points for Citrus, the third most on the team, all while spending most of his time on the pitch working as a defender.

A pair of freshmen, were listed on the 2nd team for Citrus. Grayson Iwasaki and Takuro Kawashima both earned the nods. Iwasaki put together arguably the finest offensive freshman campaign by an Owl in program history, breaking the single season program record for goals (12) and points (28). Kawashima meanwhile proved lethal off the free kick, notching three goals and five assists for the Owls.

Rounding out the All-Conference honors were sophomore defender Justin Dryer and freshman goal keeper Cesar Valverde who were both named All-WSC Honorable Mention honorees. Dryer appeared in 18 games for Citrus, with 17 starts. Another stalwart on the Owls' back line, Dryer did manage a pair of goals and four assists on the season. Valverde meanwhile played in 17 games with 14 starts posting a 2.21 goals against average and 73 saves. The 73 saves is the second most in program history for a single season.
