Glendora, CA — The Citrus College Men's Soccer program opened up their 2014 campaign on Friday afternoon with a tough opponent. The Owls played host to San Bernardino Valley College, which advanced all the way to the Regional Finals in last year's 2014 CCCAA Playoffs. The Wolverines looked to be in mid-season form, as they upended Citrus 4-1.

Citrus fell behind early, despite dominating most of the possession in the first half. The Owls had a couple of early chances, but San Bernardino Valley got on the board in the 11th minute taking advantage of a midfield turnover by the Owls and putting it in the back of the net. A little over four minutes later, Citrus watched as nearly the same scenario played out again as the Wolverines took a 2-0 lead just 15 minutes in.

Despite the domination on the scoreboard by the Wolverines early on, the Owls weren't without chances in the first half. Freshman Erick Romo took a good crack at the goal on a free kick from 20 yards out in the 6th minute of the contest, but he bent his shot just left of the goal. Shortly after San Bernardino Valley scored their second goal of the game, Citrus saw another good chance come and go, as on the second of back to back corner kicks, sophomore Austin Amato's header soared just high of Wolverine net.

The second half played out much like the first. The Owls had chances, but couldn't convert, while San Bernardino made the most of theirs. The Wolverines made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute, and seven minutes later took a commanding 4-0 lead with yet another goal.

Citrus finally got on the board late in the game, when a corner from freshman Steve Lopez soared over all the Wolverine defenders and found the inside of freshman Kamran Siddiqui's foot on the back half of the box and made it 4-1 in the 83rd minute. The Owls would have a few more looks with four more corner kicks before the final whistle blew, but nothing came of any of them as Citrus fell by three goals.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 0-1 on the young season. The Owls will get a chance to earn their first victory again on Tuesday when they host San Diego Mesa College at 4:00 PM.
