Glendora, CA -- For about 85 minutes, the Citrus College Men's Soccer team played behind the eight ball against visiting San Diego Mesa College on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls gave up a goal late in the first half, and allowed the Olympians to control the tempo for much of the match. That all changed late in the game, when the Owls tied the game up in the 86th minute, giving Citrus a much needed early season tie.

San Diego Mesa set the tone early on, and controlled the pitch for most of the first half and early in the second half. That showed as Mesa outshot the Owls 9-5 in the first 45 minutes, and took two corners, while not allowing a corner to the Owls. That persistence paid off, as the Olympians scored in the 38th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Things would stay the same early on in the second half, until midway through when Citrus finally picked up some momentum and began pounding the ball into San Diego Mesa's box. Between the 69th minute and the 86th minute, Citrus outshot Mesa 4-0 and earned three corners, while the Olympians didn't muster one, as the Owls became the aggressors. That aggressiveness paid off in the 86th minute when sophomore Daniel Ortiz pushed the ball deep to the Mesa goal line before sending a beautiful cross that found the head of sophomore Austin Amato and tied the game up at 1-1.

With the tie, Citrus moves to 0-1-1 on the year. The Owls will hit the road over the next week, beginning on Friday when they travel to Cuyamaca College for a 4:00 PM tilt.
