Glendora, CA -- For just the fourth time in 18 tries the Citrus College Men's Soccer team got a victory over its long time nemesis Santa Barbara City College. The Owls got a score in the 80th minute lifting them over the Vaqueros.
The two teams played a wide open and even match throughout the first half. Santa Barbara rattled off 12 shots to Citrus' nine in that first 45 minutes. Of those 21 total shots only nine were on frame, and none found the back of the net.
In the second half, play tightened up as the Vaqueros mustered six shots to the Owls' five. Again though, very few found the frame as each keeper recorded a single save in the final period. Citrus got all they needed though in the 80th minute when freshman Dakyer Castillo Villalobos took a pass from sophomore Michael Montoya and buried it given Citrus the 1-0 lead.
In the win, sophomore keeper Cesar Valverde recorded five saves and got his first shutout of the year. The Owls improved to 4-9-5 with the victory and 3-7-4 in conference play. Citrus will close out their home schedule on Tuesday when they host Allan Hancock College at 3:00 PM.
