Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Men's Soccer team finally snapped their scoring drought to start the 2015 season in their home opener on Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately, the Owls still ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard as they fell to visiting Palomar College 2-1.

The first half saw both teams move the ball at a decent clip, with Palomar rattling off four shots and Citrus three. Still neither team found the frame as six of the seven combined shots were off goal. Things picked up considerably in the second half, and did so rather quickly as the Comets took a 1-0 less than four minutes into the second half.

Palomar continued to apply pressure, seemingly taking a 2-0 lead after a strong play off a corner kick, only to see it waved off after an offside call. Two minutes later, the Comets got that goal for good with a beautiful transition up the field in the 62nd minute to make it 2-0.

The Owls would turn up the heat soon thereafter. Freshman Arturo Bueso finally put the Owls on the board for the first time this season with a beautiful strike from the left side that just curled inside the left post in the 68th minute. The goal broke a 248 minute scoreless streak for the Owls to start the season, the longest such streak in program history. Citrus made a valiant attempt late to tie the game up, but each effort came up short, as the Owls fell 2-1.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 0-3 on the season. The Owls will be back home on Friday when they host Norco College at 3:00 PM.
