The Owls celebrate freshman Carlos Cazares' game winner on Friday afternoon against Glendale.

Glendora, CA -- For a little over 70 minutes of Friday's Western State Conference match-up with visiting Glendale College, the Citrus College Men's Soccer team were kept on their toes. The Owls showed some real heart though and made a big comeback, proving that it's better late than ever in a 2-1 win over the Vaqueros.

In a physical game that featured seven yellow cards and 29 total fouls, the Owls and Vaqueros played much of the early first half in the midfield, where possession would change on a whim. Citrus did manage to outshoot Glendale in the first frame 7-5, with Citrus placing five of their seven attempts on the goal and Glendale four of their five.

In the second half, the Vaqueros, slowly but surely managed to wrestle possession in their favor with seven shots to Citrus' four. One of those seven found the back of the net, when they took a 1-0 lead in the 69th minute. Glendale's jubilation wouldn't last long though as Citrus answered nearly right away thanks to a goal by freshman Antonio Perez in the 71st minute. Seven minutes later, all the joy was clearly Citrus' when freshman Carlos Cazares took a ball that bounced out to the top of the box and fired it in the back of the net to make it 2-1 in the 78th minute.

From there, it was all about holding on for Citrus in the final 12 minutes plus stoppage time of action. The Owls were able to do just that as freshman keeper Antonio Tomatani recorded seven saves on the match.

With the win, Citrus improves to 2-10-1 overall and 2-7 in WSC play. The Owls will travel on Tuesday to El Cariso Park in Sylmar, CA for a showdown with Los Angeles Mission College. First touch is set for 2:00 PM.
