Owls Take Rams to Brink in 1-1 Tie

Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Men's Soccer team closed out their 2016 home schedule on Tuesday afternoon with an exciting affair. Facing 1st place Victor Valley College, the Owls took the Rams to the brink scoring a late goal and nearly upsetting Victor Valley, before they answered in stoppage time in the 1-1 tie.

The two teams battled back and forth with most of the action and change of possessions happening in the middle of the field. Citrus would hold Victor Valley to just one shot in the first half, but did allow the Rams to earnt three corners. The Owls would fire off three shots of their own, earning just one corner in the interim with each team playing to a scoreless tie after the first 45 minutes of play.

The pace picked up a bit in the second half, with Citrus taking four shots to Victor Valley's two. On of those four shots would come in the 86th minute when freshman Anthony Muniz put home a ball hit into the box by freshman Ramon Gutierrez Jr. and give Citrus a brief 1-0 lead.

After earning three corners in the first half, Victor Valley would be held to just one in the second. That corner proved to be extremely crucial as it come in stoppage time and led the tying goal that was headed just out of the reach of freshman keeper Jorge Quinones Guerrero.

With the tie, Citrus moves to 8-7-3 overall and 3-4-2 in WSC South play. The Owls have one game left on their 2016 schedule, when they travel to College of the Canyons on Friday evening for a 5:00 PM match with the Cougars.
