Citrus College kicked off the 2021 season at home Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 5-0 loss to Cypress College. The Owls fall to 0-1-0 to start the season, while the Chargers improve to 2-0-0.

The Owls held the Chargers to one goal in the first half, which came in the 24th minute, despite Cypress firing off 12 shots. Edgar Villafana made 11 saves in the contest, eight of which came in the first half alone and a big penalty kick save in the 86th minute.

Francisco Romero gave Citrus a good look in the 14th minute, knocking a header on frame to force the Cypress goalkeeper to make a save.

After Cypress grabbed an early goal to start the second half, upping its lead to 2-0, Jose Andres Ortega gave the Owls another good chance, but the Charger goalkeeper managed to tip it wide for a corner kick.

Citrus hits the road Friday for a game at Chaffey College, kicking off at 4:00 p.m.
