Owls Drop Conference Opener

Citrus College opened Western State Conference action on the road at the College of the Canyons Tuesday, falling 0-2.

The Owls drop to 2-10-0 on the year and start conference 0-1-0. The Cougars improve to 5-4-4, 1-0-0 WSC.

Canyons struck first in the 13th minute but could have done more damage. The Cougars had another good look in the 21st minute, but the Owl defense saved it off the line to keep the game close, 1-0.

The Cougars doubled their lead in the 48th minute, but 10 minutes later the Owls created a goal opportunity of their own. Matt Morales put a shot on frame, but the Cougar goalkeeper made the save.

Citrus kept pressing to try to break through late in the game and had two good looks in the final five minutes of the game, but couldn't find the back of the net. Luis Chavez Esparza forced the Canyons keeper to make the first save, before Enrique Bedolla put a threatening shot on frame.

The Owls get a week to regroup, hosting Antelope Valley College next Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
