Citrus College kicked off a new season with a 1-1 tie against Compton College to open the year with a 0-0-1 record.

Matt Morales scored the lone goal for the Owls in the 19th minute after Citrus was awarded a free kick in Tartar territory. Ivan Rosales kicked a long ball into the 18-yard box where Morales got in behind the defense and tapped it into the back of the net.

Two minutes later, however, Compton drew a penalty kick and equalized.

The Tartars looked like they might get the go-ahead goal in the 66th after the visitors were awarded another penalty kick. Alberto Orozco denied the second attempt to keep the Owls in the game.

Citrus finished with six shots in the game but couldn't break through to settle for a tie.

The Owls are back in action next Friday as they host Chaffey College at 2 p.m.
