Citrus College battled but came up just short in a 3-2 loss on the road at Antelope Valley College Friday night.
The Owls slip to 8-4-3 overall and 3-1-0 in Western State Conference-South action to drop just one spot behind the Marauders in the conference standings. The Marauders imrove to 5-4-5 on the year and remain unbeaten in conference at 3-0-1.
Citrus found itself trailing early on after giving up two goals in the first 20 minutes of action.
Still, the Owls kept battling and cut the deficit in half with a goal in the 29th minute after Hector Guevara knocked in a pass from Jacob Ponce.
Sammy Ghandour gave the Owls the equalizer in the 60th minute with his ninth goal of the year, but AVC managed to draw a penalty kick in the waning seconds of the game to walk away with the victory.
The Owls look to get back on track next week, heading to LA Pierce for a 4 p.m. contest on Tuesday.
