Citrus College Men's Soccer won their home opener last night in a close game against Santa Barbara City College.

The Owls improve to 2-2 on the season while the visiting Vaqueros fall to 1-3.

The first half was a stalemate as both teams worked to find openings for shots on goal, but the game remained tied 0-0 going into halftime.

The Vaqueros got on the board first with a breakaway goal scored in the 57th minute by Gustavo Loera-Carden. After the Owls had multiple shots on goal, they tied the game 1-1 but on an outstanding free kick goal scored by Nathan Rodriguez in the 86th minute. The referee blew his whistle on a foul by SBCC just beyond the right side of the penalty area which set up Rodriguez to send a gorgeous left-footed free kick into the back of the net.

With the game tied and only four minutes remaining in the game, the Owls went on the attack, drawing a foul inside the Vaqueros 18-yard box. Captain Ty Robnett stepped up for the penalty kick and drilled the game winning goal in the 88th minute of the game to give Citrus their second win of the season in spectacular fashion.

The Owls will host Imperial Valley next Tuesday, September 10th at 4 p.m. as they look to stay undefeated at Citrus Stadium.
