The Citrus College Men's Soccer team hosted Chaffey College this evening, a hard-fought game that ended in a 2-2 tie.
Citrus College moves to 2-4-2 on the season while Chaffey College goes to 3-5-2 on the season.
The Owls started the game off quick with a shot on goal by Nathan Rodriguez within the first minute of action. After trading shots and a few near goals scored by both sides, Matt Gutierrez scored his first goal of the season in the 19th minute off a beautifully placed shot just beyond the right corner of the 18-yard box.
Chaffey responded quickly with a goal of their own in the 20th minute to even the score at 1-1, which remained the score going into halftime.
The second half remained a battle between both teams with Chaffey on the attack and Citrus making key defensive stops until the Panthers scored in the 57th minute to take a 2-1 lead.
With time running out for the Owls, they put together some meaningful chances in the final 10 minutes of play. Richard Contreras scored the equalizing goal in the 84th minute, assisted by Yair Rodriguez.
The final whistle blew on what turned out to be a tough game for both teams, the Panthers committed 15 fouls to Owls' 16 and although Chaffey doubled Citrus' shots with 16 compared to eight, the Owls were able to comeback late to earn the tie.
Citrus College will look to pick up their first win in over three weeks when they travel to Victor Valley College this Friday, September 27th for a 6 p.m. matchup against the Rams.
