Owls Take Down Cougars in Conference Game

Citrus College Men's Soccer matched up with College of the Canyons last night, Friday, October 25th, picking up a big 3-1 conference win. 

After winning their first game since September 6th, Citrus College improves to 3-7-4 overall on the year and 1-2-1 in conference games. College of the Canyons falls to 3-10-2 overall and 1-3 in conference this season. 

The Owls only took two shots in the first half but ended up going up 1-0 after the Cougars scored an own goal with Edwin Lugo pressuring. 

In the second half Citrus College was on the attack in the 61st when Matt Gutierrez got fouled in the Cougars penalty area, a slide tackle from behind when he was headed towards goal. Matt Gutierrez drilled the penalty kick to put the Owls up 2-0.  

In the 70th minute Alexis Gutierrez put the Owls up 3-0 with an impressive header goal off a perfectly lobbed corner kick from Matt Gutierrez. 

College of the Canyons would score in the 75th minute but the Owls held on to get the 3-1 win. 

Goalie Hector Arteaga recorded eight saves on the nine shots that he faced. 

Citrus College will return home to host Antelope Valley College in a conference matchup next Tuesday, October 29th at 4 p.m.
