Citrus College Men's Soccer hosted College of the Canyons last night, Tuesday, November 12th in their final home game of the season marking the annual Sophomore Day game. Citrus picked up a 1-0 win over COC.
Citrus College adds a conference win to go 4-11-4 overall on the season and 2-6-1 in conference games while College of the Canyons drops to 4-14-2 overall and 2-7 in conference.
The Owls scored first in the 24th minute when Alexis Gutierrez floated a perfect cross to Richard Contreras who headed the ball straight into the Cougars goal to go up 1-0. Citrus played strong through the remainder of the game, controlling the ball, and finding 10 more shot opportunities. Although the Owls took 13 shots compared to five from the Cougars, they were only able to capitalize on one of them, making the final score 1-0.
Citrus College was led by Matt Gutierrez and Anthony Martinez who each fired four shots. In his final home start of the season, Christian Sanchez posted a shutout with one save.
The Owls will travel to Antelope Valley College for their final game of the season on Friday, November 15th for a game at 7 p.m.
