Water Polo Goes 3-1 at Mesa Tourney

San Diego, CA (Men's Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Men's Water Polo team had their best weekend of the 2012 season so far. The Owls went 3-1 at the San Diego Mesa College Tournament, dropping their first contest of the weekend and then rattling off three straight.

The Owls started off the weekend by getting a tough draw against Grossmont College. The Owls went down to the Griffins losing 20-6. Freshman Grant Quan led the way in for Citrus in a losing effort scoring a pair of goals.

Later in the afternoon, Citrus took on El Camino College. The Owls bounced back picking up a 10-8 win. Sophomore Ryan Batchelor scored a team high five goals in the win. Sophomore Raul Castaneda added two and also drew five kick outs in the process. Freshman goalie Andy Perez stopped seven shots for the Owls.

On the second day, Citrus continued where it left off with a close 10-9 win over LA Trade Tech College. Freshman Austin Sanchez pumped in four goals for Citrus, while Batchelor and Castaneda added two each. Batchelor also handed out four assists, while Perez stopped eight shots, and freshman Jonathon Aguirre added four steals.

In the final game of the weekend, the Owls got their biggest win beating Chaffey College 19-13. Sanchez and Castaneda had three goals each. Quan and freshman Elias Bustos added a pair of goals each, while freshman goalie Emad Shalabi got his first start of the season and recorded 15 blocks and three assists.

With the 3-1 mark, the Owls improve to 6-8 on the year. Citrus will be back at home on Wednesday for the Western State Conference opener with Santa Monica College set for 3:00 PM.
