Owls Lose Final Two Games on Sunday

Glendora, CA (Men's Water Polo)-- After splitting the first day of their home hosted tournament on Saturday the Owls closed up the weekend on Sunday with a pair of losses. Citrus kept it close in the opening contest, but got behind early in game number two and was never able to climb out of the hole.

Citrus started off its morning by taking on Fullerton College. The two teams were tied three all after the first quarter, but the Owls pulled away in the second quarter heading into the break up 10-7. Fullerton climbed their way back in the third quarter though, and the game would be all knotted up at 12 goals each headed into the fourth. The Hornets would pull away late though outscoring Citrus 4-3 in the final frame en route to a 16-15 victory.

In the loss, Citrus was led by freshman Greg Trimmer. Trimmer scored a team high five goals and added a pair of assists. Sophomore Ryan Batchelor scored twice and handed out two more assists, while freshman Robert Sanchez scored three times.

In the second game of the day, the Owls drew Palomar College. The Comets went up big early in the game scoring 10 unanswered goals in the first quarter. The Owls would nearly match Palomar in the second quarter, but still trailed big 17-5 at the break. Citrus would eventually fall 26-9, turning the ball over a season high 21 times in the loss.

Freshmen Cristian Aguilar-Rosas, Elias Bustos, Sanchez, and sophomore Raul Castaneda all had two goals each. Batchelor handed out four assists, while Bustos added two steals on the day.

With the pair of losses, Citrus falls to 1-5 on the year. The Owls will be off until Friday and Saturday when they take part in the Mt. SAC Tournament. Citrus will take on the tournament's host in the first game of the weekend, taking on the Mounties at 10:20 AM on Friday morning.
