San Diego, CA -- The Citrus College Men's Water Polo team got out of the blocks early in both of their contest during day one of the 2013 San Diego Mesa College Tournament. That quick start, helped the Owls to a pair of wins, a 18-7 victory over El Camino College and a 12-8 win over Chaffey College.

The day started off with the Owls' contest with El Camino. Citrus outscored the Warriors 7-4 in the first quarter alone to take an early big lead. In the second quarter, the Owls' defense locked in, shutting down El Camino, while the offense added four more scores. The second gave Citrus comfortable 11-4 lead at the break, as Citrus cruised to the nine point victory.

Sophomore Robert "Austin" Sanchez scored a team high six goals, while freshman Charles Ortega scored four times.

In the second game, the Owls took on the Panthers of Chaffey College for the second time this season. The result was similar to the first. The Owls again got off to a fast start, taking a 4-3 lead after the first eight minutes. In the second quarter, the Owls took command of the game, out-scoring Chaffey 5-2, and taking a 9-5 lead at the half. In the second half, the two teams matched each other goal for goal, making Citrus' halftime lead enough for the victory.
