Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Men's Water Polo team kicked off their 2013 Western State Conference schedule on Wednesday against one of the best defensive teams in the State. Cuesta College proved that designation by squelching  the Owls' offense, holding them to a season low four goals in an 11-4 loss.

The Owls were completely shutout in the first quarter, but did their best to return the favor by holding the Cougars to two goals in that same span. Citrus would finally get some offense rolling in the second with a pair of scores, but Cuesta also tacked on two more to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.

In the third the Cougars began to pull away out scoring Citrus 4-1. Cuesta kept that momentum rolling into the fourth where they outscored Citrus 3-1 handing the Owls the loss.

Of Citrus four goals, two were scored by freshman Charles Ortega. The other two were netted by sophomore Robert "Austin" Sanchez and freshman Patrick Phommanchanh. Sophomore Andy Perez notched 11 saves in the loss.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 7-6 on the year and 0-1 in WSC contests. Citrus will be back out on the deck this weekend as they take part in the Saddleback Tournament.
