Men’s Water Polo Has Seven Earn All-Conference

Glendora, CA -- Fresh off their most successful season in nearly a decade, the Citrus College Men's Water Polo team had seven players named to the All-Western State Conference team. The Owls had one 1st team selection, three 2nd team selections, and a trio of Honorable Mention selections.

Leading the way was freshman Charles Ortega who led the Owls in every significant statistical category on his way to being named a 1st team All-WSC member. Ortega had 97 goals, 30 assists, 48 steals, and drew 82 ejections. His 97 goals is the 11th most in program history, while his 82 ejections drawn in the 7th most.

Earning 2nd team honors were sophomores Christian Deamer, who was an Honorable Mention honoree as a freshman, and Andy Perez and Robert "Austin" Sanchez, who both repeat as a second teamers. Deamer had a strong 2013 season, scoring 35 goals, handing out 22 assists, and recording 18 steals. Sanchez meanwhile was third on the team in goals (57), second in assists (22), and led the team in shooting percentage, converting 40.4% of his shots. Perez meanwhile was solid in the cage for the Owls with 174 blocks on the year.

Rounding out the honors were freshmen Seth Adams, Kris Williams, and Patrick Phommachanh. Adams scored 24 goals and was second on the team with 34 steals. Williams came on strong late for the Owls, recording 23 goals and 20 steals, while Phommachanh was a regular contributor with the second most goals on the team (66) to go along with 22 assists and 18 steals.
